Order of Chivalry created by nine poor knights in 1118 A.D to protect pilgrims on the road to Jerusalem. Became fantastically rich. Noble families all over Europe bestowed vast wealth upon them. Independent of all monarchs except the Pope. Thought to possess the treasure of Solomon, specifically the Ark of the Covenant. Also thought now to possess secret relating to the death of Jesus Christ.
