THE MERIDIAN

Theoretical line running from pole to pole used in conjunction with latitude to locate any place on Earth. Zero Meridian of great importance to the French. Marks the beginning of time. Paris Zero Meridian passes through France’s greatest landmass. Marked in Paris by a brass rod in the Church of Saint Sulpice, a cross on top the Pantheon and the glass pyramid next to the Louvre. Passes through Carcassonne, the site of the tomb at Les Pontils and possibly the tiny village Py, or Pi, the last village in France before crossing the border to Spain in the Pyrenees. This and other meridians passing through the area have geometric significance for many researchers.
