MEROVINGIANS

Ancient 6th-8th century line of kings of France. Mythical ancestry. Merovée said to have had two fathers, one mortal, one a mythical beast called a Quinotaur. Claimed to be descended from Troy, Israel (the tribe of Benjamin) and Arcadia. Long-haired monarchs with magical properties attributed to their hair, which was never cut. Kings by right of birth. Did not need coronation or sanction of the Church. Weak in practise. Real power held by mayors-of-the palace.
